2. A Web master may feel (wrongly) that offering other products or services, or including great informational resources may “compete” with their own product or service. They may be reluctant to expose others to resources or products and services that are the “same” as theirs, feeling that the competitor will end up with the sale. This may be true to some extent.

However, the benefits of providing other resources and products or services besides the main product or service greatly outweigh the negatives. Studies have shown that Web sites containing great resources have more return visitors, and greater sales numbers overall.

3. A Web master may not feel comfortable assuming the liability for other products and services, or other resources that are added to a site. Of course, the more that a site contains, the greater the maintenance and cost associated with a site. However, again, the benefits of a resource-laden site far outweigh the liabilities.

4. A Web master may have no idea how to find good resources or make a judgment about what to add and what to omit.

All of the above seems to account for the reluctance of some to add additional products and services or resources to their sites. Since adding additional products and services are beneficial to almost all Web sites, here are a few guidelines when choosing which resources to add, which to omit, and the approximate amount of resources to add.

1. Resources should always reflect the main theme of a Web site and be complimentary to the main Web site, as well as the other products, services, and resources that already exist. E. G. An Internet Marketing site should, in all probability, only contain links to products, services, and resources that reflect Internet Marketing.

2. Resources should always be “content rich” and interesting to the visitor. A smattering of lackluster, “same old, same old” type resources does the Web master little good, and may even hurt the Web site, by reducing its sales effectiveness.

3. Resources should be updated at least monthly, to keep the site “fresh and lively” for return visitors. Visitors quickly lose interest if a site seems stagnant.

4. Resources should be plentiful enough to fill out a site, however, they should never overshadow the main theme of a site nor should they take away from the main purpose. They should be placed in an orderly fashion, and laid out for easy accessibility and readability. Clutter should be avoided at all costs, and a clean look maintained. There is a fine line here between “just enough” and “way too much”.

5. Avoid gimmicky, poorly written, ethically substandard resources. A Web master must use judgment when choosing resources that are truly an asset to the site. “If in doubt, don’t” is a good rule of thumb here.

Resources not only add quality and backend sales on a Web site, they enhance Search Engine placement by providing content and incoming links. They give visitors a good feeling about the site, and they set the Web master up as an “expert” in any given field.

However, quality must always rule over quantity, when placing resources and additional products and services on a site. If prudence is used, resources will enhance sales and traffic, and keep the site “alive and well” long after other competitive sites have disappeared!

1.) “Are those comments true?” If so, what can I do not improve, if not why do they feel that way? You can learn a hell of a lot from your critics and believe it or not sometimes you can benefit from them too. For instance: you can get New material to write on or discover another direction to discuss the industry, critique or explain something

2.) “Is the critic a legitimate commenter or is he a detractor?” In other words what are their true motives? Are they jealous? Are they one certain sector of the writing community who is on Prozac, Depressed, Insomniac, Alcoholic? Do they have a motive to destroy? Do they derive pleasure in creating controversy? Are they the type, which goes around the Internet looking for online forums to start a fight?

3.)”Is the critic accomplished in their own right?” Is the critic a superstar in their industry and really believes in their biting remarks, if so, it might be wise to study all their work and learn a new perspective and use that to propel meaningful thought or defend your case if in the end you have not changed you mind.

I believe that all authors who have gotten to a place in their careers where people are listening and reading what they have to say, should understand that there will be critics and detractors, so I offer my advice to deal with these folks. Think on it.

a situation? When the thought came to you, did
you file it away or brush it aside? Later on,

For some, their intuition usually revolves around people.
For others, it involves situations. If you’re uncertain
about the accuracy of your gut instinct, write it down
when it occurs to you.

For intuitions about people, write down your first
impression of them. Check for accuracy later. For intuitions
about situations, write those down as well, including the
date. Occasionally review what you’ve written about those
situations, and if something has changed, write that down
with the date. Review these from time to time to see how
accurate your instinct appears to be.

As thoughts come to you, take a few quiet minutes to
think and write. If the thoughts come at a busy time,
jot a few words down (or speak them into a tape recorder)
to write out in more detail later.

A few years ago I attended a local coaches’ group, and the
topic one evening was “our coaching intuition”. The
leader for that meeting told us a few brief facts about
one of his clients: her name, the state where she lives,
and one or two more general facts. Then he asked us to
quietly think about what else was going on in her life.
After a minute, he asked for comments. About four people
spoke up, saying things such as, “There is an illness
in her family that she is dealing with,” and “She really
doesn’t like her job,” and “She’s working a lot of hours,”
and “There is conflict between her and someone close
to her”, and “She doesn’t have enough free time.”
The man who is her coach said that all of those things
were true.

At first I thought, “How did these people know or figure
out all of these things?” As soon at that thought crossed
my mind, a new, intuitive thought took its place:
“She’s bored.” And then the thought continued, “Even
though she has so much going on in her life, she’s bored.
And she’s surprised that she’s bored.” I spoke these words
to her coach, and he agreed that she is quite bored.

A keen intuition is a mark of a good coach. We’re not
the only profession, however, who can greatly use
intuitive skills. Just about any business person can
benefit from a keen intuition. This is a great skill
for anyone to utilize.

Start with the suggestions in this article for practicing
using your intuition. Hone your skill over time. With
some focused attention, you will learn to trust your
gut instinct more and to take action on your instincts
sooner.
