Business Places Now Have Simplified Public Wi-Fi – Thanks to BT

February 16, 2009

As the result of a welcome move by BT, small and medium businesses across UK can now look forward to easy-to-setup free access public Wi-Fi hotspots.

There are already such hotspots in some places, but the setup so far has been very complicated. The new package, called the BT Business Total Broadband hub, brings simplicity to the process of setting up a free broadband Wi-Fi hotspot for customers.

The new feature is also being offered to existing BT Business customers. All they have to do is upgrade their Broadband hub firmware.

Now businesses can easily share their broadband connection with their customers. Moreover, they do not have to worry about slow speeds either. BT made it clear that the traffic from the free network will always have a lower priority than the original business network. Therefore, business owners can look forward to a smooth traffic flow even during business hours.

Businesses like dentists, eating places and cafes will benefit greatly from this. Customers are likely to spend more time and hence bring more business to the Wi-Fi owner if they stay connected at these places. The owners can provide free access through their own connection or sell BT Openzone vouchers to their customers.

Bill Murphy echoed these sentiments saying that there is a lot of value that businesses gain from providing these Wi-Fi hotspots and it is a win-win situation for both businesses and their customers.
