Peace and Happiness on Purpose

February 10, 2009

Imagine two travelers about to embark on a flight. The first walks up to the cashier and says, “I’d like a plane ticket, please.” When the cashier asks where to, the traveler replies, “I don’t know. Just give me a ticket!”

When his plane lands, he reacts negatively to his destination. He repeatedly relocates, changes jobs, and is never satisfied. No matter where he goes, he cannot escape himself.

The second traveler requests a one-way ticket, first class on flight 32 arriving in New York at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Obviously, this passenger will be much happier with his flight and destination. He is turning a clear vision of his destination into reality.

Two Essential Actions for Peace and Happiness

Peace and happiness do not come about by accident. They result from living with a definite purpose and working toward a mission
that allows fulfillment of that purpose.

Ernest Fitzgerald wrote, “It is not by accident that the happiest people are those who make a conscious effort to live useful lives. Their happiness, of course, is not a shallow exhilaration where life is one continuous intoxicating party. Rather, their happiness is a deep sense of inner peace that comes when they believe their lives have meaning and that they are making a difference for good in the world.”

Peace and Happiness from the Inside Out

The happiest people create feelings of peace and happiness internally. Those who depend on outer circumstances to bring happiness rarely find lasting contentment. Our outer world is always a mirror of our inner world.

Like the first traveler, many never define specifically what will bring them satisfaction. Without a sense of purpose, there can be no actions to support it. Instead of inner control, there is inner discontentment blamed on external events.

After changing internally, we can begin to observe many positive changes in our external world. We can know a sense of peace because our work is fulfilling. We can be content because our destinations will be of our own choosing.

Ask yourself these questions:

What is my definite major purpose?

How am I fulfilling my purpose on a daily basis?

May your journey today bring you all the peace and joy of your dreams!

Europe’s Top Ski Towns May Suffer Thanks to the Increased Cost of Electricity

It has been predicted that Europes top 655 skiing alps will be brought down to 400 by 2046. Urania Milano stated that the holiday industry will suffer long before that, not because of a decrease in the amount of snow but due to a worldwide reduction in buying might linked to the rising cost of oil. What about global warming? Scientists have showed that a twofold increase of CO2 levels shall augment ground temps by 3 – 5 degrees. Even so there remain unanswered queries. The acceleration of warming and the outcome on local climate. A couple degrees Celsius warming in the last 100 years has not been seen over the last million years. During the conclusion of the ice-age 19000 yrs ago the heating of 3 degrees was over of 7 to 9 thousand yrs. Before that Flegere and La Mongie were under thick ice and Flegere was as cold as Siberia.

Therefore what what does the future bring for mid mountain ski mountains? Energy squeezes will start to be keenly felt by 2015 – 17. Half of the economy depends upon oil and France purchases 90 percent. The present total amounts to four % of GDP. Should the price of oil steps up as predicted it will constitute 39 percent of GDP, you can envisage the down turn. Europe will see the price of agrarian trade goods climbing, plant species will alter because of a alteration in rain patterns. Many people will leave the area thanks to the summer warmth. Its hydro-power will be a invaluable supply of power however it’s not clear that it will be a bonus because there will be less rainfall, a lot of water in the winter seasons and less in the springtime.

Show Time

In an online poker game, after the last card is dealt, and the last bet made, it is time to declare a winner. Casino rules dictate that “cards rule” – meaning that players show their cards and this makes the winning hand apparent. The dealer then declares the official winner of the hand.

Sometimes there is no such showdown in a poker hand. If a player puts out a big bet, and no one calls, then that player wins and can toss the cards away without revealing the hand. However, when a bettor is called, a showdown is required to identify the winning hand. This sometimes raises controversy at the table. Players can get too attached to their hand and the way they played it, and that makes them reluctant to show it. They hate giving away any information about their playing strategy. When apoker player hesitates to reveal their hand, it is called “slow rolling” which is considered rude to the other players. It interrupts the flow of the game, and in timed tournaments, wastes precious seconds on the clock.

When a player calls a bet at the end of the round, that player is entitled to see the other player’s cards. The original bettor should cooperate and reveal the hand. If it is better that the caller’s, the caller can concede and just throw the cards away without revealing. If the caller has a better hand, then it should be revealed and declared the winner by the dealer.
