The Lord is my Strength and Song

November 7, 2008

The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his. Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.

And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually. Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. Give unto the Lord, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered? If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead? With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding. Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?

Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom. For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him? Hath thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. Be thou exalted, Lord, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed. The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace. There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy. Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver; Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power.

Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us.

Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds. O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God. I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.

Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God. For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. The king’s strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore. The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. Arise, O Lord, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.

Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength: Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me. And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate. And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.

O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment. Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.

And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.

Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

The Lord hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured.

Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?

Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.

The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. Jesus is calling you…

I have such a sense that 2005 is the year we choose to respond to the call of Jesus Christ to move on to new and greater things. It is a choice we all have to make. Yes or no. No maybe or in between.

The Spirit of the Living God is calling men and women to follow Jesus to a higher place. Jesus himself is calling you…. Are you going to follow Him or are you going to think up some valid sounding reason why you can’t this year…

We will discuss:

The call of Jesus to follow up the mountain What to expect going up the mountain. What awaits you at the top of the mountain.

1. THE CALL Mark 3: 13: “And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him.”

What an amazing scripture. There are a few main points in this that struck me.

Where was Jesus going? Jesus was going up a mountain. He was moving in a specific direction. He was leading. He had a purpose in mind that would change history.

‘He called to Him’ Jesus is calling us to Himself. To come with Him on this journey up the mountain. To follow Him for who He is. Jesus is today calling you. He is saying the following:

“Come Son / Daughter, come to me – walk close with me and I will lead you up this mountain. There will be difficulty and challenges but I am calling you to come close to me. In being close to me I can show you the view from the top, I can release you to achieve more than you ever dreamt of for me.”

I can almost picture Him ahead, looking back at you with His hand held out saying – come.

‘Those He Himself wanted’ Jesus wants you. He really really wants you. Today as you hear this word, your heart is tugging because THAT is Jesus calling you BECAUSE He Himself WANTS you. He has chosen you because He loves who you are and wants you to be part of His journey up the mountain – to the top. He wants your company. Your past does not matter, what matters is your choice today to say: Yes Jesus, I will come to You!

2. GOING UP THE MOUNTAIN Okay… so now you want to follow Him up this mountain. What does climbing up this mountain entail:

Commitment: You cannot decide to climb a mountain without some cost involved. Your commitment will determine if you achieve the top or not. Are you going to push thru even when you have lost sight of the top, even when all your buddies or family tell you that you are stupid, even when you can’t seem to see Jesus. Do you give up when the going gets tough? Or are you committed to follow the call of Jesus no matter what?

Training: In your Christian walk are you training to follow Him or are you content to stay in the valley of existence and dull living? Are you doing whatever ‘fitness’ training you can so that you are able to climb. In the same way a natural trainer has to physically train his body for climbing a mountain, so you must train your soul by having intimate time with Jesus on a regular basis. He is your leader. Your rope attached to Him will determine tour survival. Other important training aspects are: REGULAR attendance of prayer meetings, church etc. Prayer meetings are the place where Jesus Himself trains you.

Cost: Yes this will cost. To follow Jesus will cost you sometimes family and friends. Comments may sound like this: “you are mad, your team leader expects to much of you, they want to control you, you do not need to be at church(training ground) so much. Etc etc. These are normally voiced by those who cannot see Jesus calling, or they themselves are stuck in the valley and want all to stay with them their so that it will justify their mediocrity. It will take up your ‘personal time’ But the voice of Jesus is still calling “COME!”

3. THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN At the top of the mountain the view is awesome. You have won! The prize is worth it all.

Mark 3: 14 -15: “Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach and to have power to heal sickness and to cast out demons.”

At the top the following happens:

Jesus Himself appoints you to be WITH HIM – you have a personal new relationship closer than ever – closer than the people in the valley. You encounter Jesus in a life changing intimate way.

Jesus Himself appoints you to go do something WITH POWER! Not woesie Christianity, but a real supernatural demonstration of Jesus being with you. Matthew 17: 2-5: “Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James and John his brother, led them up a high mountain by themselves.

And He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as the light.

……Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

…….behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud saying: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

At the top of the mountain you encounter the glory of God the Father and Jesus, the Son, in all His might, power and splendour.

Jesus is calling…. Will you follow?
